TravelMasseuse Review for ExplorerPod.
One chilly Winter evening, my family & I ventured into the Big Apple for dinner, a Broadway show, & an exciting backstage tour. Join me on ExplorerPod.com as I share with you my experience of TGI Friday’s, the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, The Little Mermaid on Broadway, & the backstage tour.
T.G.I. Friday’s.
In the middle of the Times Square action in New York City is three-story T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant (1552 Broadway). My party of seven was seated on the third floor overlooking the busy city streets & lights.
There were decorations & knick knacks scattered all over the restaurant, such as skis, clocks, paintings, signs, etc., as well as many taxidermy items such as the head of a moose, sheep, giraffe, & whole birds. The ladies room on the third floor was very small, & very rough around the edges, but all around clean.
Our waitress was extremely excellent. Very friendly, attentive, & timely. We split a variety of meals & appetizers. I had some of the Parmesan-Crusted Sicilian Quesidilla’s, & the Three-For-All, which consisted of mozzarella sticks, chicken wings, potato skins, & various dips such as sour cream & ranch. The food tasted incredibly fresh & was bursting with delicious flavor. It was very filling & satisfying. The check came out to be around $100, which is pretty good for New York City prices, however, this is probably due to the fact that we mostly shared various appetizers & ordered no alcoholic drinks. If everyone had ordered a full meal & drink, the bill would have been much higher.
Lunt-Fontanne Theatre
I visited the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 W. 46th St.) to see an evening Broadway show. The theatre was very nice & had very industrious & friendly staff. There were gift & souvenir stands, snacks, & a bar (alcohol available). The prices were a bit high, though ($11 for two bottles of water & a bag of Sour Patch Kids).
I was seated in the Rear Mezzanine. The seats were very high up, but I still got a fantastic view of the stage. The theatre had a beautiful, elegant, & detailed décor, fancy lighting from chandeliers, & glamorous walls.
Little Mermaid On Broadway
The Little Mermaid Broadway play was phenomenal! The cast was extraordinarily talented. The vocal performances were breathtaking, especially from Sierra Boggess (“Ariel”), & Sherie Rene Scott (“Ursula”). The costumes & stage design were exquisite & very creative, the lighting & special effects well-thought out & moving, & the dance choreography very detailed, animated, & impressive. I was very impressed with the “Heely’s” (shoes with wheels) that the cast wore on their feet. It gave the audience the impression that they were gliding/swimming, but they were still able to walk regularly when needed. Very good idea, I must say.
Although not seen, the crew & stage production was obviously fantastic, too, because there were no noticeable errors. Last but not least, let’s not forget about the best part of the play… the music. It had the audience lip-singing along & really moved me personally.
The Little Mermaid on Broadway… An all-around great show, fantastic entertainment for both children and adults.
Music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman & Glenn Slater. Play directed by Francesca Zambello. Call 212-307-4747 for tickets & information.
The Little Mermaid on Broadway, Backstage Pass.
Not only did I enjoy the show, I was also lucky enough to have a backstage pass. My 6-year-old niece was with me & I think I enjoyed the tour more than she did. We got to see many props used in the show such as the Chef’s hat, fork (or as Scuttle calls it, the “Dingle-Hopper), the shell that Ariel sang into when giving her voice away to Ursula, & the kitchen knife used during the “Les Poissons” scene. We also got to see the costumes, tails & everything. My niece got to sit in Ariel’s “Grotto,” (where she keeps all of her precious human items), & we got to meet the lovely “Sebastian,” played by Tituss Burgess.
