More on Southern Spain

March 15th, 2010 · No Comments

Samantha Lister from TripBase.com shares some expert advice on the glorious Southern Spain.

From delicious food to beautiful sandy beaches and a wide range of activities on offer to entertain the whole family, Southern Spain is renowned as one of the top holiday destinations in Europe.

The Andalusia region is particularly worth a visit if you are planning on visiting the South of Spain; a favourite amongst Spanish locals and overseas tourists alike.  What makes this part of Spain so special are its various landscapes which are just moments away from one and another, from the Alpine mountain region to the tropical areas along the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. With a variety of large towns and small picturesque villages, there is plenty to see and do.

A particular favourite amongst tourists in this area is the city of Seville which is home to one of the largest Cathedrals in the world.  Completed in the 1550s, the Cathedral is a fine example of Gothic and Baroque architecture, with a striking bell tower.  Inside, you will be amazed by the magnificent interior with impressive artwork, sculptures and the outstanding tomb of Christopher Columbus.  This outstanding Cathedral is definitely worth a visit if you get the opportunity.

If you are keen to enjoy the sunshine of Southern Spain within a modern, extremely popular setting, the Costa del Sol could be the place for you.  Located on the Mediterranean coastline within the province of Malga, the Costa del Sol offers a paradise destination with over 300 sunny days on average per year.   Each glorious beach has a different atmosphere, from vibrant and lively to untouched solitary spots.  For the adventurous traveller, there are a variety of watersports to partake in, such as scuba diving, surfing and parasailing. There is also a host of accommodation available, as well as a wide variety of bars and restaurants.

As you would expect from such an ideal location, the South of Spain specialises in exquisite seafood dishes.  In fact, the Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest in the world, with fresh fish and salad very popular along the coastline.  As you venture inland, you will find more meat stews and vegetables on offer, providing tasty, nutritional meals for all the family.   Other traditional dishes include Tapas which is the perfect way to try many local foods in bite-sized pieces.

Whether you choose to visit the South of Spain on holiday with the family, for a sightseeing trip or to enjoy a warm, sunny retreat, you are sure to be welcomed by the local people, and will want to visit again and again.
